Heavy D (Dwight Arrington Myers)Actor, rapper, record producer and former leader of Heavy D & the Boyz, died today at the age of 44 after being discovered unconscious nearly his home in Los Angeles.
For Bones fans, Heavy D was Sid Shapiro, the owner of Wong Fu’s Chinese restaurant. His special talent was always know exactly what to get a customer without asking. After Season 1, the borrowed Chinese restaurant set was replaced with the Royal Diner where the cast now sites looking wistfully from the window picking at a plate of french fries.
“Somebody for Me” was the first #1 hit for Heavy D & the Boyz in 1989 from the album Big Tyme.
“Now That We Found Love” was their biggest Us Hot 100 hit, topping out at #11 in 1991.
“Got Me Waiting” from Nuttin’ But Love not only hit #1 on the US Rap charts but also scored #3 in R&B in 1994.
